General Ophthalmic Evaluation

A comprehensive eye examination checks far more than the glasses number — it is a health check for the whole eye.

Overview

General Ophthalmic Evaluation — educational image

The evaluation covers vision and refraction, the front structures of the eye, eye pressure, and the retina and optic nerve (usually after dilating drops). It detects refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma signs, retinal changes and more — often before symptoms appear.

Adults with diabetes, a family history of eye disease, or those over 40 particularly benefit from periodic checks, as do children at the ages described in our children’s eye-care guidance.
