Children’s Eye Care

When should a child have an eye check?

A routine check in the preschool years and before school is sensible — and promptly at any warning sign such as squint, head tilt, white pupil reflex or sitting very close to screens.

How should I prepare my child?

Explain the visit as "looking games" with drops that blur vision for a while. Bring a comfort toy and snacks.

Are dilating drops safe for children?

Yes — they are routinely used in pediatric eye care. Temporary light sensitivity and blurred near vision are expected.

Squint

Can squint occur in adults?

Yes. New squint or double vision in adults should be evaluated promptly, as it can indicate an underlying nerve or muscle problem.

Do children outgrow squint?

A true squint does not resolve on its own, and waiting can cost vision development. An examination clarifies the type and the right timing of treatment.

Cataract

When may cataract treatment be considered?

When the cataract begins to interfere with daily activities — a decision made together after examination.

Can cataract be cured with eye drops?

No medicine or drop is proven to reverse a cataract. When vision is significantly affected, surgery is the established treatment.
