Inside every eye sits a clear natural lens. Over the years, proteins in this lens can clump together and turn it cloudy. That clouding is a cataract — and it is one of the most common reasons adults gradually lose clear vision.
A cataract is not a film growing over the eye, and it does not spread from one eye to the other. It develops painlessly, usually in both eyes, often at different speeds.
Early signs include misty or blurred vision, glare from headlights, needing brighter light to read, and colours looking duller than before. If these sound familiar, a simple eye examination can confirm whether a cataract is the cause — and what your options are.
This article is part of the Cataract Ki Raksha awareness series. It is educational and does not replace an examination.
